Dr. Joy Wanner Sweeney is the Deputy Director of Training, TA and Community Outreach for CADCA. She joins CADCA as the former CEO/Executive Director of the Council for Drug Free Youth (CDFY) a coalition serving several counties in central Missouri. Joy served as Executive Director of CDFY for the past 11 years. Dr. Sweeney’s passion for helping children reach their full potential has driven her service and inspired her to work. Joy was elected and served for six years on the Jefferson City Public School Board; including one year as President. Dr. Sweeney has owned and operated a small business for over twenty years.

Dr. Sweeney has served on numerous state and local boards including: Chamber of Commerce Ambassador, CRMC Board of Governors, Tobacco Free Missouri, Rotary and Central Missouri Foster Care and Adoption Association to name a few. Joy also served as a mentor with Big Brothers Big Sisters, as a foster parent and hosted six foreign exchange students. Dr. Sweeney has presented on numerous prevention topics at conferences throughout the country including the Missouri School Boards Assoc., Missouri Assoc. of Treatment Court Professionals, Missouri Association of Counties, SLU Law Symposium, ACT Missouri Prevention Conference, Oklahoma State Prevention Conference and Mental Health KC Conference among others. Joy brings a wealth of non-profit, public health, business, advocacy, community service and leadership experience to her role with CADCA.

Joy received her Doctoral Degree of Philosophy in the field of Organization and Management from Capella University. She also holds a BA, MBA, Post Master’s Certification in Education, as well as Advanced Prevention Specialist Certification. Dr. Sweeney is a tremendous advocate for education and strives to empower youth and families with knowledge and resources through her work. She feels that education has the potential to inspire and motivate everyone to achieve fulfillment in life!
