Our community denies that the opioid epidemic is in our community. Our community is fully aware of the extent of the problem.
Many users do not think that using a prescription drug not prescribed to them is abuse because they are using it "appropriately". Most people are fully aware the definition of abuse.
Current media efforts are not targeted and are limited to radio and newspaper. Media efforts will target high risk populations (ie. senior citizens, parents) and will be promoted via traditional and non-traditional media.
A general lack of awareness about the problems and harms of opioid misuse and abuse among local elected officials. Local elected officials will be educated on the problems and harms of opioid misuse and abuse among all local elected officials.
