The family justice system rarely, if ever, makes available to children and youth the opportunity to participate in decisions  that affect their lives.

The participation of children & youth in decision-making is the expected practice in all family justice processes
 
Participation processes, if they exist, are intimidating and confusing for children and youth,  and out of sync with their developmental stage and capacities. Participation processes are designed so that they are comfortable and understandable to children and youth, and responsive to their developmental stage and capacity;
