Brief Description
The mental health services in schools and academic institutions are an important part of a support system [1]. Students who are mentally healthy are more likely to attend school to learn, engage with their peers, have critical connections with students around them and have non-aggressive behaviors [2].

Background
A study conducted by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Service has shown that adolescents are more comfortable accessing various healthcare services through clinics based in schools and therefore improving these services is of great importance and of need [3].
Mental health resources that are culturally responsive can assist in reducing stigma associated with accessing these services, and expanding them to become comprehensive is critical [4]
There are several methods to improve mental health resources. Firstly, promoting self-care in schools as a tool to cope with stress and for mental wellness is important for preventative measures [5]. In addition, raising awareness about mental illness in schools through education will assist in decreasing stigma in schools [6]. Importantly, assisting in implementing and designing policies around accessible mental health resources in schools is critical, and investing in these resources for longevity [7].
