Brief Page Description

Examples of a Description for this Objective

This includes grandparents or foster parents who are functioning in the role of parents (and they can find the use of technology to be a challenge).   We need to support people to be able to use things like technology.   We can us the term “family” rather than parents to be more inclusive.  We need better and more effective communication on what we’re trying to do together.  As professionals, we use jargon like family engagement and family voice, but the families we work with don’t understand the jargon.  We need better communication and feedback loops.

Examples of a From-To Gap

Current State

Desired State

a.  Parents give voice in many ways, but there are not good ways for that voice to be able to impact change in the systems.

a. We would like a clear model for families to be involved in leadership and change.

b. Parents struggle to prioritize this type of civic engagement with all the other priorities.   A stipend can help them see that they are valued.

b. Parents realize that their participation is a significant lever for positive change, so being involved is important and influential for my future and for that of my peers.  They definitely see that they are not just “token” participants, and their voices and partnership has impact. The see commitments to change—even if it takes a long time.

c. Because of the geographical expanse, it is difficult for people to get together and interact with one another.   There are a lot of “silos” among people in different situations (e.g. mountain vs. valley) .  Some are very remote, so it is difficult to get a good picture of the different issues.

c. The geographical expanse is not longer a barrier.   We are effectively leveraging technology (like Zoom, social media, message boards, etc.) to make it easier to connect across geographically disperse regions.   People who need help with the technology are given appropriate supports.

d.  Many programs require getting to the location where the service is provided, so many people struggle to get the help that they need.

d.  People can access services regardless of where they are located.

e.  The state is asking for family feedback or input after, not necessarily family leadership incorporated into how we provide support, mentorship and input into the design from the beginning, before we implement a project

e.  Families are actively engaged up-front, in the design of the programs, providing input and partnership in how the systems can designed and implemented.
