Return to Increase Postive Recreation Opportunities for Youth objective or ZOOM_MAP--Increase_Positive_Recreation_Opportunities_for_Youth


In addition to the typical high school sports teams or the highly competitive traveling teams in the main sports, there is a big opportunity for communities to expand clubs and leagues that are more recreational and that can include a broader range of youth with different skill levels.  These clubs and leagues can have a greater emphasis on social connection, healthy physical activity, and be enhanced with opportunities to learn social, emotional and relationship s


Background

There are a wide range of group recreational sports that can be fun and beneficial to a much wider range of youth than the programs that typically exist in communities.  Examples that can be economically scaled up for different ages include:

  • Ultimate
  • Archery
  • Ultimate Challenge
  • Kubb
  • Softball
  • Kickball
  • Gaga Ball
