Brief Description


Background

Literacy is a critical part of societal growth, and literate societies are better capable of developing and progressing in a positive manner. Reading promotes confidence in individuals, and enables people to act in a creative manner. In addition, it provides rapid access to knowledge and information that helps with life-long learning journeys for society.[1]

 


Tools and Resources

Communities should ensure schools have effective libraries, and encourage schools to allocate a budget in purchasing library books. Community members can promote group reading sessions,volunteering to read in schools, libraries and different organizations- they also serve as role models for the rest of the community.[2]
